Abstract:

To provide a multifunction torque converter with an improved differential pressure on both sides of an impeller clutch.

This torque converter includes an impeller clutch 102, a lock-up clutch 150, a release chamber 110 for the impeller clutch, connected to a first channel 114, an apply chamber 112 for the impeller clutch, connected to a second channel 140, an apply chamber 160 for the lock-up clutch, connected to a third channel 158, and a torus 134 connected to a fourth channel 141. The second, third, and fourth channels open to a space including a longitudinal axis for the torque converter and the space is arranged to receive an input shaft 156 for a transmission. The first channel is arranged to connect to a line in a pump housing for a transmission.
