PURPOSE: To prevent vibration of walls to optimize the damping action of a damping device by fixing one side of a wall to a beam within a space enclosed by poles and beams, and attaching the other side to the beam with a space therebetween, and interposing a viscoelastic damper and a resilient plastic damper between each side and a pole and between a bottom side and the beam, respectively.
CONSTITUTION: When a structure 1 is vibrated in the directions of the arrows A, B by earthquakes or wind, etc., vibrations are generated between a beam 3 and a wall 5 and in the directions of the arrows A, B relative to each other, and as long as the vibrations are small, a viscoelastic member 12 located between the attaching members 10, 11 of a viscoelastic damper 6 provided between a pole 2 and a wall 5 on each side is deformed to absorb the energy of the vibrations. As the vibrations in the directions of the arrows A, B are increased to such a degree as cannot be absorbed by the viscoelastic member 12 of the viscoelastic damper 6 alone, the energy absorber 16b of the vibration energy absorption grid 16 of a resilient plastic damper 7 provided between a lower beam 3 and a lower wall 5 is plastically deformed in the directions of the arrows A, B to absorb the energy of the vibrations. Absorption of the vibration energy by the viscoelastic damper 6 is continued also in the latter case.
