Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free cutting steel for plastic molding dice low in cost and excellent in finished surface roughness, by which machinability is improved without addition of much amount of elements capable of improving machinability, and without applying special heat treatment, and by which opposite characteristics such as machinability, hardening and finished surface roughness can be improved.
SOLUTION: This free cutting steel for plastic molding dice, low in cost and excellent in finished surface roughness, is composed of 0.20 to 0.60 mass % C, 0.3 to 1.00 mass % Si, 0.50 to 1.50 mass % Mn, 0.010 to 0.050 mass % S, 0.30 to 1.2 mass % Cr, 0.05 to 1.00 Ni, 0.01 to 0.05 mass % Al and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The steel has a structure consisting of ferrite and pearlite, wherein the ratio of area of ferrite content is 15 to 40% and the residue is pearlite, and has the hardness of 83 to 97 HRB, and further, contains at least one selected from the group consisting of 0.1 to 1.0 mass % Cu and 0.1 to 1.0 mass % Mo according to necessary.
