Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a free cutting steel with stable quality and high reliability suitable for the precision machinery industry such as watchmaking by converting MnS as the free cutting component of a sulfur free cutting steel into CrS and finely dispersing the CrS in the steel.
CONSTITUTION: To an Fe-C binary system carbon steel as a base steel are added, by wt., 0.5W12.0% Cr, 0.05W0.40% S, 0.05W0.1% N and ≤0.3% Mn. Thus, superior machinability, chemical stability and corrosion resistance are provided, and the life of a bite can be prolonged 7W10 times as compared to a conventional free cutting steel.
