Abstract:
The free piston engine has an engine piston (6) driven by a staged hydraulic piston (8), the section of which with the lesser diameter is arranged in a work cylinder (14) and the section with the greater diameter in a compression cylinder (18). The compression stroke is activated with pressure medium from an accumulator (30) via a start valve (32). Pressure medium can be sucked into the work cylinder from a low pressure accumulator (24). During the expansion stroke, the pressure medium in one of the cylinders is used for charging a pressure medium accumulator. The pressure medium accumulator is of the high pressure type (30), connectable to both the work cylinder and the compression cylinder.
