Title:
FREQUENCY MODULATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3460451
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frequency modulator where CNR(carrier-to-noise ratio) performance is more improved.
SOLUTION: An input part 1 outputs a non-inverse signal 11 of an input signal 10 and an inverse signal 12. Two FM modulating laser parts 21 and 22 are driven respectively by the non-inverse signal 11 and the inverse signal 12. A photoelectric converting part 41 ware-synthesizes the output light 31 of the FM modulating laser part 21 with the output light 30 of a local oscillation laser part 3, converts it into an electric signal and, then, executes optical heterodyne wave detection so as to output a beat signal 51. In a same way, the photoelectric converting part 42 wave-synthesizes the output light 32 of the FM modulating laser part 22 with the output light 30 of the local oscillation laser part 3, converts it into the electric signal and, then, executes optical heterodyne wave detection so as to output the beat signal 52. A mixing part 5 mixes the two beat signals 51 and 52 so as to output an FM modulating signal 60 which is provided with two-fold frequency shift as compared with a case of one FM modulating laser part.
