PURPOSE: To subject vegetables and fruits weak to heat to shrink wrapping without changing qualities and to maintain freshness of vegetables and fruits for a long period of time by using a film to shrink with water at low temperature as a freshness preservative.
CONSTITUTION: A shrinkable film which comprises a graft copolymer of a polysaccharide selected from cellulose-based polysaccharide, starch-based polysaccharide, vegetable rubber-based polysaccharide, alga-based polysaccharide, heteroglycan vegetable viscous substance-based polysaccharide, animal-based polysaccharide and microorganism-based polysaccharide and a thermoplastic resin, a graft copolymer or a block copolymer of a hydrophilic resin and the thermoplastic resin or a mixture of the hydrophilic resin and the thermoplastic resin, is drawn and shrinks by water at -30°C to 50°C. Or the film and a water absorbing material such as highly water absorbing resin and water absorbing and hygroscopic fibers are used as a freshness preservative and vegetables and fruits are subjected to shrink wrapping.
