To provide a friction damper which is compact in size and can show stable performance by giving a uniform friction force.

The friction damper 1 is composed of a slider 1a made of a metal, plates 1b, 1b for mounting the slider at a required interval, flat elastic members 1c which are mounted inside the plates so as to press the slider by a regulated pushing force, and flat sliding friction members 1d which are fixed to one side of the elastic member and are brought into pressure contact with the surface of the slider by the regulated pushing force. The vibration energy making the plates and the slider relatively displace can be absorbed by the friction between the slider and the sliding friction members.
