Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the transmitting force arbitrarily without using a mechanical hydraulic mechanism and the like.
SOLUTION: The transmitting force is controlled by utilizing that the friction coefficient of the friction surface is changed by giving the electric field to the friction surface of a friction engaging device. The friction engaging members are contacted directly each other by the function of a pushing force so as to friction engaged. When an electric field is given between the friction engaging members, the friction coefficient of the friction surface is changed, and the transmitting force can be changed. This friction engaging device is a clutch device 10, for example. A friction member 20 consisting of an insulation material is installed to an input disk 16, and the friction member 20 is engaged with an output disk 22. The friction surface is being lubricated. A control device 30 controls a voltage applying device 28, to apply the voltage to an electrode 26, and a desired transmitting force is obtained.
