PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material less in rust fastening power and rust peeling in a friction material containing no copper high in environmental load or having the content of copper of 0.5 mass% or less.SOLUTION: There is provided a friction material composition containing a binding agent, an organic filler, an inorganic filler and a fiber substrate, containing no copper as an element in the friction material composition or having the content of copper of 0.5 mass% or less, containing a fibrillated aramid fiber as the fiber substrate, powdered zinc and calcium hydroxide as the inorganic filler with the content of the calcium hydroxide of 2.5 to 10 mass%.SELECTED DRAWING: None
