Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a frictional material composition containing a base material of a fibrous substance, a friction adjusting agent consisting of vulcanized rubber powder and a binder and capable of providing a friction material exhibiting friction characteristics which are stable even under high temperature and high load.

CONSTITUTION: The composition contains (A) preferably 30-55wt.% (in the case of glass fiber) base material of a fibrous substance (preferably glass fiber), (B) preferably 15-35wt.% friction adjusting agent consisting of vulcanized rubber powder and (C) 10-50wt.% (as a solid content) binder (preferably unmodified resol type phenolic resin). As the component B, the vulcanized rubber powder obtained by adding 20-40 pts.wt. sulfur to 100 pts.wt. acrylonitrile butadiene rubber and then heat-treating the mixture is preferably used. Furthermore, friction characteristics are improved by combining powder of melamine resin cured product and Sb2O3 or copper powder with the rubber powder as the component B.
