Abstract:

To obtain a friction material having abrasion resistance and fade resistance, an effect on sound and a strength even after high-temperature deterioration, useful as a brake pad, brake lining, clutch facing, brake shoe, etc.

This friction material comprises a nitrogen acid-based compound as a flame retardant composed of a nitrogen compound and an acid. The nitrogen compound is selected from melamine, ammonium, benzoguanamine, acetoguanamine and ethylenediamine and the acid is selected from phosphoric acid, polyphosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, sulfamic acid, boric acid, oxalic acid, phthalic acid and cyanuric acid. Specifically, melamine sulfate, melamine polyphosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, etc., are cited as the nitrogen acid- based compound.
