To provide a horizontal type friction stir joining device preventing joining trash generated from a joined portion of a joined member during friction stir joining from winding around a rotating tool.
The friction stir joining device includes: the rotatable rotating tool 6 having a pin 6a which is located at a tip thereof and can be pressed on the joined portion P of a cylindrical tank 1; and an electric motor 5 holding the cylindrical tank 1 and rotating the cylindrical tank 1 around an axial center Q on a horizontal face. Friction heat generated by rotating the cylindrical tank 1 with the pin 6a inserted into the joined portion P causes a plastic flow of the joined portion P, so as to join the joined portion P. The friction stir joining device further includes a winding prevention means 7 disposed on the outer side of the cylindrical tank 1 so as to enable penetration of the rotating tool 6 and preventing the joining trash D generated from the joined portion P of the cylindrical tank 1 during the friction stir joining from winding around the rotating tool 6.
