Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute frictional agitation joining without any recess in the joining of extruded shapes the extruding directions of which are orthogonal each other.
SOLUTION: An end part of an extruded shape 150 is projected to the side of its rib 153 to constitute a thick wall part 156. The thick wall part 156 is further projected toward an extruded shape 160 the extruding direction to be joined of which is orthogonal to constitute a projecting part 157. The projecting part 157 is superposed on the outer surface side of the plate 161 of the extruded shape 160. A rib 163 in the vicinity of a frame (36B) is cut and does not exist. The projecting quantity L2 of the projecting part 157 is equal to the width L1 of the thick wall part. That is, the projecting part 157 is equivalent to the thick wall part 156. The the end of the projecting part 157 is as inclined as that of the thick wall part 156. When a rotating body 70 is inserted from the upper side to execute frictional agitation joining, since the projecting part 157 exists over a gap 150c between the end parts 150b, 160b of two extruded shapes 150, 160, the metal of the projecting part 157 or the like is fed to the gap 150c. Also, the metal is fed to the upper side of the extruded shape 160. Thus, excellent joining is obtained compared with the case that the thick wall part 156 and the projecting part 157 do not exist or the case that only the projecting part 157 does not exist.
