Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a frictional material for brakes, etc., excellent in physical properties such as coefficient of friction and abrasion wear as well as biodegradability and hardly having bad influence upon natural environment, by using a bacterial cellulose as a fiber-reinforcing agent.
SOLUTION: This frictional material consists essentially of (A) a thermosetting resin binder, (B) a fiber reinforcing material, (C) an inorganic filler and (D) an organic friction controller and a bacterial cellulose is used as at least a part of the component B. Furthermore, a content of the collulose is 1-35wt.% based on total amount of the frictional material and the frictional material contains preferably 5-25wt.% component A, 10-50wt.% component B, 20-70wt.% component C and 5-25wt.% component D and the cellulose is obtained by culturing a bacterium having bacterial cellulose-producing ability, synthesizing gel-like cellulose fiber in a bacterial cell body and discharging the fiber to the outside of the cell body.
