To prevent lowering of power performance of a vehicle after a restart of a fuel cell of being under suspension of generating operation, in a fuel cell electric vehicle performing stop and restart operations, and to provide its control method.
The fuel cell electric vehicle stops the generating operation of a fuel cell stack when a predetermined stopping condition is established, and restarts the generating operation of the fuel cell stack upon establishment of a restarting condition including that power required by a system exceeds a threshold value Pref during suspension of the generating operation of the fuel cell stack. When the maximum battery output power value Pbmax is lower than a reference value, a power assist of the battery becomes weak. However, since the threshold value Pref is changed to a value Pref1 lower than a value Pref0 in normal case, the fuel cell stack under suspension of the generating operation is restarted earlier than in normal case, so that the electric power is supplied to a motor and the like from the fuel cell stack earlier than in normal case. Thus, the vehicle performance can be prevented from lowering after the restart of the fuel cell stack.
