To provide a fuel cell system capable of detecting precisely and simply deterioration of insulation capacity between the fuel cell and the ground due to the generated water and cooling water of the fuel cell.
The fuel cell system 1 comprises an auxiliary power source 3 connected to a load H connected to a fuel cell 2 through a switch 4 and discharge resistors 51, 52. These discharge resistors 51, 52 are connected to a ground E, and the electrode of the fuel cell 2 and the ground E have equivalent value to the state in which insulation resistance 6 is formed between them and are substantially insulated. The fuel cell system 1 has voltmeters 11, 12 for measuring each voltage of the fuel cell 2 and the auxiliary power source 3 and a voltmeter 13 for measuring the voltage between the fuel cell 2 and the ground E. In this system 1, the resistance value (insulation resistance value) of the insulation resistor 6 is precisely and simply calculated based on these actual measured voltage and the resistance value of the discharge resistors 51, 52.
