To provide a fuel cell system capable of improving utilization efficiency of fuel and shortening the purging time.
The fuel cell system is equipped with a hydrogen generation part 20, having a reaction chamber 24 in which a hydrogen generating substance to cause hydrogen generation reaction is stored, and a power generation part 30 which communicates with the reaction chamber 24 to be supplied with hydrogen generated in the reaction chamber 24 and generates power, by making hydrogen and oxygen react chemically. A diffusion prevention means 40 is provided which is installed between the reaction chamber 24 and the power generation part 30 so as to prevent diffusion of impurity gas in the power generation part 30 into the reaction chamber 24.
