To surely prevent fuel gas leakage from a fuel gas communicating hole, to the outside of a separator.
In a fuel cell 10, an electrolyte membrane-electrode structure 12 is held between the first separator 14 and the second separator 16. The edge of an upper end in the long-side direction of the fuel cell 10 includes an oxidant gas supply communicating hole 18a and a fuel gas supply communicating hole 20a, which communicate with each other in the direction of arrow A. The fuel gas supply communicating hole 20a is placed inward to the oxidant gas supply communication hole 18a, and the oxidant gas supply communicating hole 18a is placed outward around the fuel gas supply communicating hole 20a in a substantially U shape. Because fuel gas seal portions 46b and 48e, and the like, are placed around the fuel gas supply communication hole 20a to exhaust the fuel gas leaking from the fuel gas seal portions 46b and 48e, etc., to the oxidant gas supply communicating hole 18a, the fuel gas is prevented from leaking to the outside of the fuel cell 10.
