Abstract:
Provided is a fuel debris holding device capable of preventing corrosion of a heat resistant layer by suppressing the occurrence of a fuel debris reduction reaction. According to the present invention, a fuel debris holding device which is disposed inside a pedestal directly below a nuclear reactor pressure vessel supported by the pedestal, and which is disposed on a nuclear reactor containment vessel floor, comprises: a lower layer formed from a first oxide having a melting point higher than 2000ºC; and an upper layer which is disposed on the lower layer and is formed from a second oxide having a free energy of formation that is higher than the free energy of formation of the first oxide. In the event of a severe accident, if molten fuel debris falls from the nuclear reactor pressure vessel onto the upper layer, a reduction reaction occurs between a metal element M1 contained in the fuel debris and the second oxide in the upper layer, generating an oxide of the metal element M1. A reduction reaction therefore does not occur between the metal element M1 and the first oxide in the lower layer, and corrosion of the lower layer can therefore be prevented.
