To provide a fuel injection apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of realizing positive stratified combustion by transferring a fuel spray to an ignition plug at appropriate timing regardless of the operating state of the internal combustion engine besides preventing a lowering of heat efficiency and the increase of emission caused by fuel sticking to a piston top face and the increase of an S/V ratio.
The fuel spray F of inverted V-shaped cross section is jetted toward the ignition plug 5 from a fuel injection valve. The fuel spray F is transferred into the vicinity of the ignition plug by forward tumble flow generated in a combustion chamber 4, and the intensity of the forward tumble flow is adjusted by a tumble control valve 17 provided at an intake port 6, according to engine speed and throttle opening. The variation of intake flow velocity caused by the engine speed and throttle opening is thereby compensated.
