To maintain an appropriate combustion state of main injection fuel even if fuel adhering on a cylinder inner wall or the like by pilot injection remains until start of main injection.
In cases that fuel adhering on the cylinder inner wall or the like by pilot injection remains (in a liquid state) until start of main injection (adhesion-remain exists), quantity of pilot injection is increased by A*X2 and quantity of main injection is reduced by A*X2 as compared to quantities in other cases (adhesion-remain does not exist). A*X2 indicates fuel adhesion quantity at a time of main injection start caused by pilot injection in a previous cycle. Drop of cylinder temperature at a time of main injection start can be compensated and ignition delay time in main injection fuel can be maintained appropriately by this increase of quantity of pilot injection in the case that adhesion-remain exists. Additionally, fluctuation of output torque can be inhibited since total fuel injection quantity does not change depending on whether adhesion-remain exists or adhesion-remain does not exist.
