A fuel injection nozzle 15 includes a plurality of injection hole group 20 comprising two injection holes 21, 22 respectively. The distance between the injection holes 21, 22 and the angle between the injection holes 21, 22 are set in such a manner that the distance X between wall surface impingement points of the injection holes 21, 22 of each injection hole group 20 of the fuel injection nozzle 15 making spray penetration in the combustion chamber vertical direction after impingement on the combustion chamber wall surface local maximum is set between the distance between the impingement points in an operation zone in which swirl intensity in a combustion chamber is minimized and the distance X between the impingement points in an operation zone in which the swirl intensity is maximized, and that spray penetration can be maintained near a local maximum value therebetween.
