To provide an highly reliable fuel injection device of an internal combustion engine in which the distribution of a fuel in a combustion chamber can be changed without using a movable member.
A nozzle injection valve 20 comprises a nozzle plate 30 having a plurality of jetting holes 32. The jetting holes are classified into groups A, B, C, and heaters Ha, Hb, Hc heated by energization are installed in the jetting holes for each group. No heater is energized, the distribution of the jetted fuel is concentrated to the cavity 4a of a piston. When the heater Ha is heated by energization within a temperature range in which the fuel is not boiled in the jetting hole, the fuel is passed through the jetting holes in group A, and the flow of the fuel toward an area near a spark plug 6 is increased over a flow from the jetting holes in the other groups. When the heaters Hb, Hc are heated by energization to more than a temperature at which the fuel is boiled in the jetting holes, a pressure loss in the jetting holes is increased to reduce the amount of the fuel passed through the jetting holes in groups B, C. Consequently, since the fuel distribution is changed, the fuel near the spark plug can be enriched so that the fuel is adaptive to stratified combustion when the engine is cooled.
