PURPOSE: To promote good combustion by forcing fuel to be press fed being metered by a plunger, actuated by a compression pressure in an internal combustion engine, and opening a needle valve in the vicinity of the top dead center in a compression stroke while injecting fuel into a combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A plunger 5, actuated by a pressure in a combustion chamber 4, is arranged in a plunger body 6 provided in a cylinder head 2. When a piston 3 is placed in a suction stroke, the plunger 5 moves in a direction A, introducing fuel into a cylinder 7 from a fuel press feed port 8. While the plunger 5, when it is placed in a compression stroke, rises by a compression pressure, closing a fuel supply port 8 by a bottom surface 9, and the plunger 5, metering fuel, once stops. Next, when the piston 3 reaches in the vicinity of the top dead center, a needle valve 10 is opened by a solenoid 15, and forcing the fuel to be press fed by a rise of the plunger 5 and injected from a fine injection groove 22 provided between the body 6 and the plunger 5, injection is finished when a pressure relief groove 11 reaches the supply port 8. Further, a fuel quantity is adjusted by turning the plunger 5 with a control rack 19.
