Abstract:

To solve the problem, in the case of collecting a relatively rich gas mixture to the vicinity of a spark plug in a cylinder injection/spark ignition type internal combustion engine, of the need to provide a recess on the top face of a piston and thereby, the difficulty in enhancing the compression ratio.

In this cylinder injection/spark ignition type internal combustion engine, a rising gradient face is formed by upraising the top face of the piston reciprocating in a cylinder, an injection hole is directed toward a combustion chamber in the upper part of the cylinder, a fuel injection valve is installed, in such a manner that its injection direction faces the rising gradient face, and only homogeneous combustion is performed. In this case, a first fuel injection is carried out in an intake stroke, and a second injection is performed in the latter half of a compression stroke in a fuel injection amount less than that in the first injection and capable of generating turbulence in the gas mixture inside the combustion chamber.
