Abstract:
To evaluate the soundness of a fuel rod, the combustion of which has proceeded, with good accuracy at a transient change time.SOLUTION: Provided is a fuel soundness evaluation method executed by an analyzer that analyzes physical damage to the fuel rod at a transient change time. This evaluation method executes: a first step in which an analysis model having a fuel pellet and a cladding tube for covering the fuel pellet is used as an analysis model and the temperature of the fuel pellet is calculated; a second step in which analysis is made using the analysis model on the basis of input parameters that include the temperature calculated in the first step and the dimension of a fuel rod including the fuel pellet is calculated; and a third step in which physical damage to the cladding tube is evaluated on the basis of the dimension of the fuel rod calculated in the second step. In the second step, when the fuel pellet is at the cycle-middle or cycle-end combustion degree, a gap-zero model, with which a gap between the cladding tube and the fuel pellet is zero, is used as the analysis model.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
