To achieve easy handling of a connecting member to be mounted on a governor lever with a rack pin engagement portion, by forming the connecting member with a sheet metal and partly bending the sheet metal to form the rack pin engagement portion.
In this fuel injection system for a diesel engine, a fuel injection pump 2 having a fuel quantity control rack 4 is provided. A fuel quantity control unit including a fuel injection camshaft 14 and mechanical governor is disposed below the pump 2. The mechanical governor has a governor lever 1 composed of a pair of levers 18, 19, and a governor weight 17 and the like. A connecting member 3 is mounted on an upper end of the first lever 18 having a torque-up device 21 and a governor force input portion 22. The connecting device 3 is made of a sheet metal, a portion of which is bent to form a rack pin engagement portion 5. This engagement portion 5 engages with a rack pin 6 of the fuel quantity control rack 4.
