Abstract:
To provide a fuel reforming device for an internal combustion engine that effectively suppresses damage of a reforming catalyst due to condensation water generated in the internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: A fuel reforming device for an internal combustion engine includes: a fuel addition device 31 adding reforming fuel to exhaust gas discharged from a combustion chamber 11; and a fuel reformer 35 having a catalyst for decomposing hydrocarbon-based fuel to which the reforming fuel has been added into reformed gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide. An exhaust gas recirculation passage 23 for returning exhaust gas discharged from the fuel reformer 35 to intake air includes a cooling device 45. Exhaust gas recirculation passages 231, 232, 233 corresponding to condensation water holding means are disposed at a lower position in the gravity downward direction than a catalyst lower surface standard 100 of the catalyst of the fuel reformer 35 so as to prevent condensation water generated in the exhaust gas recirculation passage 23 from coming into contact with the catalyst. Thus this can prevent damage of a compressor blade in an intake passage due to condensation water and avoid contact of the condensation water with the reforming catalyst so as to prevent damage of the catalyst.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
