NEW MATERIAL:A fulgimide derivative expressed by formula I (R1 to R3 are H, halogen or alkyl which may have a substituent group, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or aryloxy; R2 and R3 may mutually link to form a cyclic group such as adamantyl or norbornyl group; R4 is formula II, III, IV, etc., (R1' is H, halogen, alkyl, etc.; R2' to R5' are R1', aryl, aralkyl, etc.; W is O, S, Se, etc.); X is bifunctional organic residue; R is amino, hydroxyl, formyl, etc., which may have a substituent group) or salts thereof.
EXAMPLE: N-(4-Aminophenyl)-2-[(E)-1-(2,5-dimehtyl-3-furyl)ethylidene]-3- isopropylidenesuccinimide.
USE: Useful as recording, copying and displaying materials.
PREPARATION: For example, a compound expressed by formula V is reacted with a compound expressed by formula VI to afford the compound expressed by formula I.
