Abstract:

To provide, so as to enable economical expressions of functions borne by expensive fullerene hydroxides (e.g., strength, hardness, ultraviolet absorption power, etc.) within composites thereof with resins, a fullerene hydroxide-containing solution wherein fullerene hydroxides are homogeneously nano-dispersed within a solvent which can be removed at a low temperature at a later step.

In the provided fullerene hydroxide-containing solution, fullerene hydroxide or a fullerene hydroxide derivative is dispersed, as a dispersion phase, within a continuous phase consisting either of a tetrahydrofuran-water mixed solvent or of a molten phenol, whereas the number-standard average particle diameter of the dispersion phase is 50 nm or less. This solution is coated on a molding, and tetrahydrofuran and water constituting the mixed solvent are subsequently removed so as to form a fullerene hydroxide layer on the molding surface. A fullerene hydroxide-containing resin composition may alternatively be provided mixing this solution with a resin and then removing the mixed solvent from the mixture.
