PURPOSE: The titled copolymer excellent in heat resistance, obtained by copolymerizing a specified fumaric diester with an unsaturated peroxy compound.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. mixture comprising 100pts.wt. fumaric diester of formula I (wherein R1W2 are each a 1W12C alkyl or a 3W12C cycloalkyl), e.g., diisopropyl fumarate, 0.01W20pts.wt. unsaturated peroxy compound such as an unsaturated peroxycarbonate of formula II (wherein R1W2 are each H, a 1W12C alkyl or a 3W12C cycloalkyl), e.g., t-butylperoxy alkyl carbonate, or an unsaturated peroxy ester of formula III (wherein R1 is H, a 1W3C alkyl, formula IV or formula V, R2 is H, a 1W12C alkyl, or a 3W12C cycloalkyl, R3 is H or a 1W3C alkyl, except in-case where both of R1 and R2 are H at the same time, e.g., t-butyl peroxyacrylate) and, optionally, 1W50pts.wt. copolymerizable vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene) is polymerized at 0W110°C for 1W72hr in the presence of 0.01W10pts.wt. radical polymerization initiator.
