Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a functional fluid having a marked effect of increasing viscosity or giving polarized transmitted light in a manner such that, under the influence of a magnetic field and/or an electric field, the fine ferromagnetic particles and the fine dielectric particles in the fluid can align along the directions of the respective fields to form clusters.
CONSTITUTION: This functional fluid is one composed of a dispersion medium comprising an organic solvent and a dispersion comprising ultrafine ferroelectric particles and ultrafine dielectric particles and functioning under the influence of a magnetic field and/ox an electric field.
