To provide a functional material wherein a perovskite-type oxide having a one-dimensional structure oriented on a chemically stable and highly photo-active crystal face is oriented in a direction perpendicular to the substrate, and its manufacturing method.
The functional material comprises a substrate and a film formed on the surface of the substrate, wherein the film contains a columnar substance of a perovskite-type oxide whose longitudinal direction is oriented in (110) direction of the perovskite-type crystal. The columnar substance of perovskite-type oxide is a single crystal and the longitudinal direction of the columnar substance of perovskite-type oxide is oriented in a direction perpendicular to the substrate.
