NEW MATERIAL: A phenyl azoxime compound of formula I (R is aryl or heteroaryl; X is H, amino, alkyl, aryl or heteroaryl; Z is H or alkanoyl).
EXAMPLE: Phenylazoacetaldoxime-N-oxide.
USE: Microbicide, particularly fungicide or nematicide. Effective for yellow dwarf, grape gray mold, wheat leaf mottling, barley powdery mildew, tomato summer blight, wheat brown leaf rust, wheat eyespot, or the like.
PROCESS: For example, the compound of formula II (X is H, alkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl), is treated by a base such as Na2CO3 or the like, and nitrite such as NaNO2 or the like, preferably in solvent such as water, preferably at 40°C to reflux temperature, and then is oxidized by peroxide such as peroxytrifluoroacetic acid or the like in solvent such as dichloroethane, to obtain the compound of formula I where X is not amino.
