PURPOSE: To prolong the lifetime of a furnace significantly by supporting ceiling arch bricks at the upper part of furnace wall of lining bricks of second and subsequent layers through an abutting brick and stacking the lower stage of the first layer lining brick as a vertically engaged tension structure. CONSTITUTION: Ceiling arch bricks 5 are formed by jointing brick members 6 being split radially at a specified, curvature while taking account of thermal expansion/contraction to an arcuate shape keeping member 7 and suspended, at the opposite end parts and opposite side end parts thereof, between the upper parts of the second layer of lining brick 3 in the furnace wall 4 through an abutting brick 8 having obliquely cut end face. The first layer lining brick 2 is formed by stacking slightly larger blocks 9 having upper and intermediate parts projecting into the second layer brick 3 and engaged therewith as a joint structure part 10. The block 9 of the brick 2 is provided, at the lower part thereof, with a tapered part 11 and a fitting part 12 with upper and lower blocks 9 being stacked as an engaged tension structure part 13 in order to prevent the brick 2 from projecting inward.
