PURPOSE: To constitute a furnace so as to be commonly used to melting and refining by arranging a tuyere and a lower electrode at the lower part of the furnace body and an swingable upper electrode and a hood provided with an inserting hole for passing through a lance at the upper part thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The furnace body 1 is constituted with an iron shell 2, permanent brick 3 and lining brick 4, and has the tuyere 10 and the lower electrode 11 at the lower part, and this upper part is covered with the liftable hood provided with the inserting hole 8 for gas exhaust and dust collecting. The inserting hole 8 can penetrate the lance 6 and the upper electrode 7, and the lance 6 and the upper electrode 7 are supported with poles 14 through a supporting body 12 and a swing arm 13, respectively, and the swing arm 13 is lifted along the pole 14 and also swung while using the pole 14 as the axis. Further, the furnace body 1 is tiltably supported with trunnion shafts 9 at both right and left sides. By this method, in accordance with the variation, etc., of raw material cost and energy cost, the formation of the melting or the refining can be selected and the furnace for executing the economical operation is constituted.
