To provide a piece of furniture in which the dimension can be expanded or contracted in accordance with an installation space of a room, and in which the expandable/contractible structure can be formed with a small number of components easily and in a hidden manner so as to make the furniture look better in appearance.

The furniture is composed of setting bases 3, 4 arranged separately left and right and a main body 2 placed in a manner superimposed over both setting bases 3, 4, wherein the setting bases 3, 4 and the main body 2 are made relatively slidable left and right. Between the main body 2 and the setting bases 3, 4, there are installed guiding means 6a, 20a, 21a for relatively guiding these components horizontally.
