To provide a safe fusion and retaining method capable of securely preventing steam explosion and hydrogen explosion in a method in which an active metallic material or a high melting point material is melted at a high temperature and retained.
An active metallic material is melted while cooling the inside or the outer peripheral part of a melting container by a liquid coolant and retained as it is as a liquid. In this method, the coolant has a melting point of 200°C or lower and a boiling point of 1000°C or higher. Such a material that chief constituents do not react with water or steam is used. This method can be applied for the fusion and retaining method of a high melting-point material. It is recommendable to use lead-bismuth as the coolant.
