NEW MATERIAL:A G6 amylase gene coding a G6 amylase having the amino acid sequence of formula or coding a polypeptide having enzymatic activity similar to the amylase.

USE: Mass production of G6-amylase having wide working pH range and high heat-resistance.

PREPARATION: The objective G6 amylase gene can be produced e.g. by culturing Bacillus H-167 strain (FERM P-8683) belonging to alkalophilic bacillus in an alkaline medium, collecting the cells by centrifugal separation, separating chromosome DNA by phenol process, treating with restriction enzyme, linking the obtained fragment to a cloning vector, transforming E.coli, culturing the transformant in a starch-containing medium, selecting a clone having amylase activity and forming a distinct clear zone around the colony, collecting the plasmid, treating with restriction enzyme and subjecting to Southern hybridization.
