PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a game server, a game system, a control method for the game system, and a program that, by adopting a mechanism on the notification concerning the purchase of an item in a game, can promote the purchase of an item in a game.SOLUTION: A game server 1 that provides a plurality of items usable in a game to a plurality of communication terminals 2 includes: notification means 121 for notifying a communication terminal 2-2 corresponding to second user identification information associated with first user identification information that a first item has been provided to a communication terminal 2-1 when a request is received for providing the first item from the communication terminal 2-1 corresponding to the first user identification information; and item providing means 122 for providing a second item to the communication terminal 2-1 in addition to the first item when the notification means 121 has notified that the first item is provided to the communication terminal 2-2.
