Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve resolution in comparison with the case wherein a discrete type detector is used by detecting transmitting type gamma rays with a rod shaped plastic scintillator, and computing a level based on the detected quantity. CONSTITUTION:Gamma-ray sources 2, 2a and 2b are arranged on one side of a storage tank 1. A rod shaped plastic scintillator 5 is provided at the opposite side, and the transmitting gamma rays are detected. The detected signals are transduced into electric signals in a photomultiplier tube 7. The signals are amplified in a detecting part and processed. Since the quantity of the transmitting gamma rays detected with the plastic scintillator 5 is changed in correspondence with the level of the stored material in the storage tank, the level can be detected by detecting the quantity of the transmitting gamma rays. Resolution is enhanced in comparison with the case wherein a plurality of discrete detectors are used.
