PURPOSE: To certainly perform ignition without using a dielectric, by providing a catalyst chamber on the downstream side of a combustion chamber, by providing a microwave generator which is connected to the combustion chamber by a waveguide, by providing a resistive heater, by carbonizing part of garbage, and by sparking to the carbonized part of garbage by discharge with microwaves.
CONSTITUTION: Microwaves conducted through a waveguide 6 are discharged in a combustion chamber 1, making an intensive electric field inside it. The microwaves are radiated by a metallic wire netting 9 provided in the combustion chamber 1 and is absorbed by the garbage in the lower part 11 of a combustion chamber. At the same time air is heated by a heater 20, becoming hot air, and getting into the combustion chamber from a combustion air hole 7. It carbonizes the garbage as well as to dry it. Carbon which is a good conductor of electricity receives the microwaves, starting discharging. The gas generating from the garbage and the surface layer of garbage are ignited by sparks and are burned by the air fed into the combustion chamber from the combustion air hole 7. The metallic wire netting 9 traps rising ashes and also being red-heated and gives radiant heat to the lower part of the garbage. An air for re-combustion is fed from a combustion air port 8 to the exhaust gas rising through the metallic wire netting 9, and the unburnt content of exhaust gas, especially, hydrocarbon gas is purified by a preheated catalyst 15 on the downstream side of a combustion chamber.
