To provide a garbage treatment apparatus which does not pollute surroundings and can be started up smoothly.
The apparatus has a microbial decomposition treatment section 21 containing a microorganism carrier 26 and decomposing garbage 27 with microorganisms, a lid opening/closing detection means 33 for detecting the opening/closing of a lid 29 of the decomposition treatment section 21, an agitating means 23 agitating the carrier 26, a freely removable storage chamber 38 communicating with the decomposition treatment section 21 and storing the carrier 26 and a control section 40 controlling operation. The apparatus is constructed so as to stop the agitating means 23 for a prescribed time after the detection means 33 detects opening of the lid 29, ensuring clean discharging work without scattering of the carrier 26 from the communicating part of the decomposition treatment section 21 toward the storage chamber 38.
