A garbage treatment apparatus includes a main body 2 having a garbage treatment vessel 21 where garbage is heated and dried and converted to dried refuse, and a detachable dried refuse container that is to contain the dried refuse and is installed under the main body 2. An openable dried refuse discharge part 33 is provided on the bottom of the garbage treatment vessel 21 to discharge the dried refuse produced by heating and drying the garbage into the dried refuse container attached to the main body 2. When the garbage is converted to the dried refuse, a door of the dried refuse discharge part 33 of the garbage treatment vessel 21 is opened and the dried refuse is transferred to the dried refuse container attached to the main body 2. After that, the dried refuse container is removed from the main body 2 and the dried refuse is transferred into a conventional refuse container (bag). New garbage is poured into the garbage treatment vessel 21 that is emptied and heating and drying treatment is carried out.
