To more quickly add/throw a garbage without giving uncomfortable odor in a garbage treatment machine.
The garbage treatment machine is provided with a lock means 4 for locking a lid in the state that the lid is closed, a drying heater (drying/heating means) 7 for heating the garbage in a storage vessel, a control means 21 for controlling a drying operation, a steam amount detection means for detecting steam generated from the garbage and a lock release button (lock release operation means) 18 for releasing the lock means 4 by a user. When the user operates the lock release button 18 during operation of the lock means 4, the control means 21 firstly turns off energization of the drying heater 7 and when the steam in the storage vessel is reduced and a value detected by the steam amount detection means becomes a predetermined value or lower, the lock means 4 is actually released. Thereby, the garbage treatment machine is obtained, in which the lock means of the lid is more quickly released, the garbage can be more quickly added/thrown without giving an uncomfortable feeling by the steam containing an odor to the user and usability is enhanced.
