To provide a very practical gas detector of a small size, allowing measurement in a short time, and having a reduced failure.
This gas detector is provided with a semiconductor laser 14, external resonators 24, 25 for enhancing intensity of a laser beam output from the semiconductor laser, a semi-cylindrical lens 19 arranged in parallel to the external resonators to converge scattered light, a scattered light reflecting mirror 17 arranged in an opposite side of the semi-cylindrical lens with optical axes of the external resonators therebetween, a filter 22 for extracting Raman scattered light from the scattered light converged through the semi-cylindrical lens, and a photosensor 23 for detecting the intensity of the Raman scattered light extracted by the filter. The intensity of the laser beam is thereby intensified by the external resonators, the scattered light generated by irradiating measuring objective gas with the laser beam is converged efficiently by the semi-cylindrical lens and the mirror, and the gas is thereby detected and determined quantitatively in a real time, irrespective of using the semiconductor laser of a low output.
