Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas diffusion electrode with low cost and high performance by adding a surfactant having an ionic dissociation group to a gas diffusion electrode comprising carbon black and Teflon, used in a solid polymer fuel cell.
SOLUTION: An ionic surfactant has a hydrophobic group and a hydrophilic group dissociating in ions in a molecule, a surfactant having ionic dissociation groups at both ends of a hydrophobic group can be used in addition to a surfactant having a general structure bonding a pair of hydrophobic group and hydrophilic group. Preferably, a surfactant with high thermal stability and high degree of dissociation of ionic dissociation group, for example an ionic surfactant having a perfluoroalkyl group as a hydrophobic group, specifically perfluoro alkanesulfonic acid is used. Performance equivalent to that obtained when commercial Nafion solution is impregnated is provided.
