PURPOSE: To prevent a phosphor from interfering an anode by mounting a plurality of stripe-like electric power supplying conductors on an optical mask in the predetermined direction, disposing a plurality of anodes projected in a comb teeth shape on the optical mask in such a manner that a hole accords with a hole formed on the optical mask, and inserting the phosphor into the holes.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of electric power supplying conductors 8 are arranged on optical masks 2 in a stripe in the direction perpendicular to the stripe direction of cathodes 6. A plurality of anodes 3 are projected in a comb shape with each one end surface thereof connected electrically. The anode 3 is mounted on the optical mask 2 in almost the same thickness as that of the electric power supplying conductor 8. A hole 8a is defined by the electric power supplying conductor 8 and the anode 3 in accordance with a hole 2a of the optical mask 2. A phosphor 4 is insertingly housed into the holes 2a, 8a. Upon selective application of a voltage to the electric power supplying conductors 8 according to an image signal while scanning the anodes 6 of negative potential in sequence, electric discharge 7 is generated between the anode 3 connected to the selected electric power supplying conductor 8 and the scanned anode 6.
