Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably ignite mixed gas in a main chamber in an engine mounted with the main chamber and a sub-chamber.SOLUTION: A four-stroke gas engine 1 comprises: a main chamber 8; a sub-chamber 20 which is separated from the main chamber with a bulkhead member 17 and has capacity smaller than that of the main chamber; communication holes 22 which are installed on the bulkhead member and connect the main chamber and the sub-chamber; an injector 30 which injects gas fuel into the sub-chamber; and an ignition plug 36 which is arranged in the sub-chamber. The injector performs: a main injection in an intake stroke so as to form mixed gas, having an equivalent ratio not less than 0.5 and not more than 2.0 at ignition timing, in the main chamber; and a sub-injection with a gas fuel amount smaller than that of the main injection immediately before the ignition timing so as to form the mixed gas, having the equivalent ratio not less than 1.0 and not more than 2.0 at the ignition timing, in the sub-chamber. A total opening area of the communication holes on the sub-chamber and capacity of the sub-chamber are determined such that a speed of gas injected into the main chamber through the communication holes after an ignition falls in a range not less than 4 m/s and not more than 7 m/s.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14
